Plitvice Lakes from Zagreb — how to plan the day

Plitvice works as an unhurried day trip from Zagreb — provided you start early and decide on the entrance and walking route in advance.

When to leave

Leaving Zagreb between 7 and 8am means arriving ahead of the coach groups and walking in cooler air. Most guests are back in the late afternoon.

Entrance 1 or Entrance 2

Entrance 1 leads straight to the Great Waterfall and the lower lakes — the logical choice for half a day. Entrance 2 works better for longer routes that include the upper lakes.

Park tickets are bought separately, ideally online in advance during the season; the driving price does not include them.

How the day works with a private chauffeur

Your chauffeur picks you up at your Zagreb address, stays for the whole day and waits near the exit while you walk the park. No parking hunt, no timetable.

Many guests add a stop in Rastoke or lunch in Slunj on the way back — mention it when you inquire and we build it into the plan.

FAQ

Questions before you travel

How long is the drive from Zagreb to Plitvice?

About 1.5 to 2 hours each way, depending on traffic.

Are park tickets included?

No. You buy the tickets yourself; in the season we recommend booking them online in advance.

Can the trip be combined with a transfer to the coast?

Yes — Plitvice is on the way to Zadar and Split, so we often build it into a transfer with your luggage on board.
